Equipment

Meter Mix Concrete and Forest City Redi Mix have a variety of different style trucks to provide you, the customer, with the best service possible. With the use of Barrel Trucks, Conveyor Trucks, Front Discharge Trucks, Meter Mix Trucks and a Pump Truck in combination with our Computerized Dispatching System the chances of your project being a success are enormous.

Computerized Dispatch Plant

The Computerized Dispatching System can create and change mixes to meet your requirements and specifications for every load.  The system provides accuracy as to volume and consistency as to mix design. The order can be adjusted immediately to coincide with site conditions, weather conditions and temperatures.  All this information is stored on the computer so that your order can be repeated at a later date.

Barrel Truck

We have 2 different sizes of Barrel trucks.  The 7 cubic metre trucks which will carry about 700 sqft at 4 inches thick of concrete and 9 cubic metre trucks which will carry about 900 sqft at 4 inches thick of concrete. The mix is designed and loaded at the plant to meet your needs and specifications. The trucks are loaded with dry materials and water. The mixing occurs during transport. The ready mix truck maintains the material's liquid state, through agitation, or turning of the drum. The interior of the drum on a concrete truck is fitted with spiral blades. In one rotational direction, the concrete is pushed deeper into the drum mixing the ingredients. This is the direction the drum is rotated while the concrete is being transported to the building site. When the drum rotates in the other direction, the screw-type arrangement discharges, or forces the concrete out of the drum. From there it goes onto chutes to guide the viscous concrete directly to the chosen location. If the truck cannot get close enough to the site to use the chutes, we have equipped some of these Barrel Trucks with conveyors.

Conveyor Trucks

The Conveyor Trucks will reach roughly 12 metres or 40 feet. The benefit of this system is not only being able to reach a location but it also allows you to retain the proper mix design and water ratio instead of having to add water weakening the concrete. Proximity to the proper location will save time and labour. A minimal amount of paddling or shoveling the concrete to the proper location will be required.  If the conveyor truck is not going to get you close enough to your placement location, or there are barriers to get to the location then a Pump Truck may be used.

Pump Truck

The Pump Truck is fitted with an articulating boom with pump hose mounted on the side of the boom. It can reach 36 metres or 100 feet straight out and can rotate 360 degrees. A large hopper at the rear of the truck holds the concrete that the barrel trucks bring. The pump then forces the concrete up the pump hose that is traversing the boom and down to a rubber hose where the concrete is discharged into place. The boom is controlled by a remote that the driver / operator can carry around with him. This provides the operator the ability to get close to the concrete crew for safe visual and verbal communication. This truck-mounted boom pump is usually used for larger volumes and to speed up the pouring time with pin point accuracy.

Front Discharge Truck

Another unique truck that Meter Mix and Forest City Redi Mix have available is the Front Discharge Truck.  These trucks will hold 9 cubic metres of ready mix concrete the same as the other barrel trucks.  The difference as seen, is the barrel is place on the truck backwards.  Therefore, loading and unloading is done from the front of the truck. This feature aids in the communication between the driver and the worker as the pour is being performed. Rear discharge trucks require both a driver and a "chuteman" to guide the truck and chutes back and forth to place concrete in the manner suitable to the contractor. Front discharge trucks have controls inside the cab of the truck to allow the driver to move the chutes in all directions well maintaining a visual on the workers. The 6 wheel drive capability allows the truck to access sandy, muddy or loose gravel areas that other barrel trucks are unable to access with out getting stuck.

Meter Mix Truck

The 5th type of truck called a Meter Mix Truck has been compared to a “batch plant on wheels”.  The truck arrives on site with raw ingredients unproduced. These trucks have different compartments containing the essentials to produce concrete.  Sand, gravel, powder, water are in the main compartments and the side tanks are filled with air entrainment and additives. The driver / operator can change the settings to produce the mix that is required.  Water can be added or taken away as the ingredients drop into a pot at the back of the truck and get mixed together as it is moved thru an auger. These trucks are great for smaller jobs where time and estimating of volume required is difficult. The truck can go from job to job with out reloading unless the volume on the truck is insufficient for the next project. Billing from a meter mix truck is done by how much is used and by the quarter metre. Where with a barrel truck billing is done by what is ordered and by the quarter metre.
